About the NAACP Bayonne Branch
Committed to civil rights, civic engagement, and community leadership in Bayonne.
Our Mission & Vision
The NAACP Bayonne Branch is the local chapter of the nation’s oldest civil rights organization. We serve the Bayonne community through civic engagement, leadership, and advocacy grounded in fairness and equal opportunity. We welcome all who share our commitment to strengthening our city.
Our History & National Legacy
Our National Legacy
Founded in 1909 in response to the ongoing violence against Black people around the country, the NAACP is the largest and most pre-eminent civil rights organization in the nation. We have over 2,200 units and branches across the nation, along with over 2 million activists. Our mission is to secure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights in order to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons.
Learn More About Our Work
The Bayonne Branch
In 1927, the NAACP Bayonne Branch was founded by the late Mr. Ferdinand Smith to improve the political, educational and economic status of people of color. The branch's primary objective was, and remains, to eliminate racial prejudice in all its forms while heightening the awareness of the community-at-large to racial discrimination and its impact.
Today, the NAACP Bayonne Branch #2078 is one of more than two thousand NAACP local units nationwide, serving the city with steadfast dedication to social justice and civic progress in Bayonne.
President’s Message
As President, I invite you to become a part of the vital work of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Our mission is rooted in justice, equity, and the ongoing pursuit of freedom for all people—and that work requires each of us.
Membership in the NAACP is more than a title; it is a commitment to civic responsibility. It means staying informed, standing engaged, and using your voice to advocate for positive change in our communities. At a time when our collective voices matter more than ever, your involvement can help shape a stronger, more just future.
We also warmly welcome every member to share their unique talents and abilities. Whether through participating in events, serving on committees, or supporting community initiatives, there is a place for you here. Your gifts can help us educate, empower, and uplift others.
Together, let us move forward with purpose, passion, and unity.
